When we hear of a long-distance relationship, we all think to ourselves, “Oh, that’s going to be difficult.” And it most certainly is. It’s difficult, frustrating, and irritating. And two individuals living in it may become so exhausted that they decide to split up, but wait!!! Have we ever tried to think the other way around? Have we ever attempted to view the other side of the earth? Have we considered whether or not a long-distance relationship may be healthy?
No, I suppose.
Because we all are so busy finding what we lack in the relationship that we forget, it can also carry some good to it.
Today, we’ll try to examine both its advantages and disadvantages. First, here are some of its cons:
- THE LONELINESS:
Two individuals who love each other, no matter how self-sufficient they are, always require the presence of their partner to complete their love tale. However, when they are destined to live apart, their love story remains unfinished, leaving them with loneliness in their hearts. Feeling of emptiness and void space can only be filled with the presence of your spouse, with whom you can share anything to everything.
- THE RISE IN INSECURITIES:
When two partners live apart, there is a high likelihood of insecurity between them. Male and female insecurities can be different, yet they can also have the same insecurities. They may both feel insecure about whether or not the other spouse would stand with them despite the distance. They require constant affirmation from their partner to trust that they will stay with them. The fear of losing your partner is frequent and consistent in a long-distance relationship.
- CONFRONTING PROBLEMS AND SITUATIONS ON YOUR OWN:
Fighting the odds of life without your mate becomes very challenging. It doesn’t matter if it’s loneliness, situations, or circumstances; it doesn’t matter what we deal with on a day-to-day basis. We all need a helping hand, and if nothing else, emotional support to operate as human beings. We encounter various issues, but when you return home to someone who provides tranquility, the rest of the world falls into place. However, if you do not have such a person, you are left to deal with things alone.
- EMOTIONALLY CHALLENGING:
It can be emotionally challenging for two lovers who live apart to live their lives individually. From a lack of a partner to coping with things on your own to assuring your partner of their value to growing misunderstandings to giving them enough time and adhering to a timetable is all; they deal with. The emotional baggage that no one can comprehend. All of this can get exhausting for two partners living in such circumstances.
- IGNORANCE OF THE PHYSICAL NEED:
We all have a natural desire to be physically loved. The way you communicate yourself with words is very different from how you tell people by your actions. One of the primary limitations of a long-term relationship that we lack is the ability to love and be loved physically. The physical connection is limited to a point; where it becomes a frustration, you are torn between wanting to be with someone and being unable to do so. The biggest challenge comes when your commitment and love prevent you from being physical with anyone else when your natural urge calls you.
Now, moving towards its benefits, we have brought you the pros that we can experience and enjoy in a long-distance relationship are as follows:
- THE SPACE TO BE YOURSELF:
When we first move in with our partner, we all understand how important it is to take a break and some space from our daily routine. While in a long-distance relationship, it is possible to discover yourself and spend quality time pondering: about your life and enhance yourself as a person and partner.
- EXPENSES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE LIMITED:
From obligations to expenses, when two partners begin living together, everything changes, and the addition propels it to new heights. It becomes difficult for the couples to maintain their relationship, prompting them to split up. But as a result of a long-distance relationship, you have plenty of time to plan for all of the responsibilities and expenses that may arise in the future. So in the meantime, you can work around to make your future better and easy for you to sustain.
- GOALS CAN BE FOCUSED ON:
Your dreams and desires can occasionally succumb to the weight of duties and perish before they can be achieved. A long-distance relationship, on the other hand, is the ideal approach to make your dreams come true by keeping them in focus and working on them individually before you two meet.
- MAKE YOU SURVIVOR:
When two people face any tough time together, their relationship either strengthens or breaks down. And if it falls into the latter category, it was never meant for you. A long-distance relationship is a test before you can be together. If you survive it, you will most likely stand by your spouse in any challenging situation. If you can’t keep up with it, know that it was never strong enough to keep you both together.
- REALIZATION OF WHAT MATTERS TO YOU:
A long-distance relationship enables us to understand what this relationship means to us. And the desire to see your spouse becomes real. We begin to value each other’s importance and the necessity of our partner’s presence. We learn to be grateful for the little things that we could have overlooked if we were together at this time. Thus, the little things to be appreciative of each other is what we can expect as a result. When you begin living together, you’ll know what to value and what to ignore.
As previously stated, we all know that the journey of a long-distance relationship is not easy. But if we look into it further, we will see that it can be healthier than a relationship where we immediately begin living together. All of this time teaches and informs us about our partner’s perspective and responses, allowing us to make the best decision for ourselves. That is the time to put our compatibility and comprehension to the test and watch astonishing results coming.
