Have you ever had one of those moments?

I was in the grocery store earlier today, and I saw a box of raisins on the shelf. I immediately heard the California Raisins singing, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” If you are old enough to remember those funny commercials from back in the day, you are probably hearing it in your head right now. Nothing is wrong with that, I do not think so. But, I am no expert on that.

So that whole bit got me thinking, why am I humming this song that I have not heard in a long time. So, I looked up what it is called when you see something that reminds you of a song?  “Google” came up with synesthesia. I was curious, and I continued reading more about it. There is a good article on WebMD about it. It is called “Synesthesia,” written by Angela Nelson. I enjoyed reading it. The article goes into more detail than I am willing to research.

Furthermore, I started thinking about other things that trigger songs in my head. For example, when I hit 4th gear on my old motorcycle, I started hearing “Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf.” I am sure most of you know that song, even if it was before you were old enough to go to a concert by yourself. I could list other examples, but by now, you should have the idea and a few of your own on what I’m talking about.

My guess is that music has a good influence on us all. That is why they always play background music in movies. Then they repeat it when the same thing comes up in the movie again. For example, in horror movies. When “Jason or “Michael” is about to slice and dice their way thru a crowded room full of victims if you have not noticed you will now! HAHAHAHAHA! Just kidding, it is hard to say how any particular song will affect anyone at any given time. We all have those songs that just pop into our heads, at random times, often from something triggering it whether we consciously know it or not.

This is just my random thought for the day, maybe another time, I will discuss how I like songs, and after a while, I will pay attention to what the lyrics actually say!
