Each year millions of people in every state make their New Year’s resolutions, but not all achieve their goals. According to a survey, the minimal ratio of people manages to reach their goals. Experts say if it’s hard for you to keep the New Year’s resolutions, then; you’re not setting the right goals.

Yes!! If you fail to achieve anything in one year, that might mean you need more time to succeed in it. A new year means a new chapter of your life, and it depends on how you write it. Most people give up on their new year’s resolution in the end. Do you know why? Let me tell you the valid reasons behind New Year’s resolutions fail.

Reasons Behind New Year’s Resolutions Failure

Here I’m not going to take you so much time. Let’s make it precise and informative so that you’ll get to know your mistakes instead of reading boring stories.

  1. Try To Be Specific

Do you know what that means? Let me explain it to you. These are the most significant reasons behind the failure of the resolution. The goals you think to achieve in the new year aren’t specific enough. Suppose your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight or have a healthy lifestyle, but do you know what comes under this umbrella? Just saying you’re losing weight doesn’t keep you motivated; instead, you’ll fail to achieve the goal.

How about making your goal precise? Circle a date on the calendar and prepare yourself to lose 5 pounds or run for 10km till that date. Or mark the date and motivate yourself to achieve any little goal till that. In this way, you’ll meet your goal step by step. We all know that slow and steady wins the race. You can’t just get fit or slim in the blink of an eye.

You need to work for that, and to achieve the goal, you need to be specific, precise, plus determined. Giving deadlines to yourself is helpful, and the short-term or medium-term benchmarks will help you achieve your goal. I’d suggest you make a chart equipped with mini or significant tasks to accomplish every week and give yourself a deadline “tick-tock” the time starts now.

  • Think Positively

Consider this, if anything that stops you from hitting your goal is your negativity. Most people frame their goal with negative language that demotivates and makes you sad. If you ask yourself to stop eating junk or stop being a couch potato or stop wasting money, then; you’ll end up thinking about it, which you’re trying to avoid.

You get it. Right? If I ask you not to think about what a cat with pink and purple stripes will look like, you’ll undoubtedly start thinking about it. Similarly, we ask ourselves not to eat junk but how about framing it positively?

Instead of asking yourself to stop eating burgers or fries, make a desire to eat peanut butter, carrots, or cucumber as a snack. Likewise, instead of asking yourself to stop wasting money, start telling yourself that saving money for rainy days is a wise decision.

  • Make resolutions about yourself.

I believe you might be surprised by seeing the heading above. Do you know what that means? That is one of the biggest hurdles people face while making the new year’s resolutions. Trends are the biggest culprits, and each one of us makes a new trend our goal to achieve.

It even includes the career goals you set just because you think this is what other people expect or want you to do. No, resolutions don’t work like that. If you desire to get fit just because it’s trending, then; I’m sorry to break your bubble you’ll lose. Goals are supposed to be made for yourself, by yourself.

People are most likely to be influenced by society, family, or friends and make goals due to peer pressure. But the day you’ll start setting a goal for yourself, which you think you can or have to do, which benefits you, you’ll surely achieve it.

  • Patience Is the key

You can’t conquer the world overnight. Right!! Slow and steady always wins the race. Most people are overly eager to achieve a thing and eventually lose it. Honestly, if achieving goals was that easy, everyone would do it. Patience is the key to everything. Play your part with consistency, and you’ll be surprised to see the results.

Exercise your patient muscles for your own best interest. Start it slowly and gradually. Don’t stress yourself; instead, remove it by enjoying the process. Most people struggle with weight loss because they go for dreadful exercise and eat bland food to speed up the process. No, it doesn’t work like that. Create a plan that doesn’t interrupt your daily life and add fun to it instead of putting you under many burdens.

  • Believe In Yourself

The last piece of advice is to believe in yourself. Even if you failed to achieve the New Year’s resolutions last year, you still should think that you can do it this year. I know it might be difficult for you to prepare yourself again for the same thing, but doubts will stop your growth and push you towards failure.  And the only way to defeat negativity or doubts is by believing in yourself. Trust me. No one cares if you fail three times or more than that. You’re the only one affected by keeping the doubts in mind. This time try to believe in yourself and do your best.
